Shadow Bane Dorina Basarab Karen Chance Books
This book was amazing. I’m not even sure where to start, so I’m going to keep it short and sweet. We are four books in to the Midnight’s Daughtee series, and while this book is the longest of them all, it seemed to read the shortest. I’m not complaining. If the next book is a thousand pages I’ll probably still devour it in a day. Dory, her interactions with other characters, and the obstacles she faces are honestly so compelling that if I could only have one series on a deserted island, this would be it. Funny, vulnerable, badass, sarcastic, a little crazy, Dory is in true Dory fashion throughout it all. I was laughing out loud in some places (I’m looking at you Marlowe!), practically swooning in others (Louis-Cesaer is honestly the best boyfriend ever), epiphanizing (is that a word?) in others (throughout four books I never realized Radu was trapped in the body of a glamourous teenager and it honestly just makes him more fabulous 💁🏻♀️), getting exasperated (with Mircea and his continuing Mircea-ness), and basically hanging on for yet another crazy ride. Honestly this book had everything I love in it: Dory, vampires, vampire politics, fae, assassins, Radu, Dory being awesome...anyway, short and sweet.Read. This. Book.
Not only will you love it, you’ll want more just as badly as I do.

Shadow Bane Dorina Basarab Karen Chance Books Reviews
Ms. Chance delivers again! Every time a new book comes out I have it preordered to arrive asap because so few authors deliver with the consistency of Karen chance, after so 4 dory books and 8 cassie the thrills have just gotten better and better! More detail. More allure. Character twists and developments that keep upu furiously turning pages a mix of "I have to find out what happens next" and "please dont let it ever end!"
Few novels keep you so engaged, so invested in the characters, and so enthralled to the very last sentence hungry for still more!
An absolute guaranteed fantastic read EVERY TIME!
I am so very disappointed in this book. I abandoned the related Cassie Palmer series a few books ago when the author decided what we needed was non-stop chaotic action scenes. I couldn't keep track of what was going on or, honestly, what I should care. Chance had also decided that it was great writing to have her main character spend chapters upon chapters trying to get something to eat but being thwarted by the aforementioned chaotic action scenes, politics or other nonsense. Thankfully the three Dorina books, while tending toward mild chaos, were still followable and highly entertaining.
After waiting years for the newest book I was very disappointed to find it populated by exactly what had caused me to quit reading Cassie Palmer. And a distinct lack of the interesting side characters. After much anticipation, this book wound up on my did not finish pile.
Excellent book, probably the best in the two connecting series Karen Chance writes. Not necessarily because the plot was better -- though it was good -- but because it was much better executed than usually. The endless mayhem was for once punctuated with slower chapters with inner reflection and picking up the clues that allowed the reader to catch up too. That way, the reader wasn't completely blindsided by the story's conclusion like usually, but was nicely brought along with it to the end. Now, if only there was some other way to start every single chapter than the main character waking up without a clue for how she's ended that way or how the action of the previous chapter ended. I especially liked how the strange dual relationship with Dory and Dorina is developing, and how her strange family keeps growing with new people. The Mircea chapters set in the past were great too, giving insigth to his life we wouldn't otherwise get. And Louis-Cesare was a dish like always.
I loved the newest Dory book, and this series altogether! I like how the author advances the story arc with each book. A lot of series I've been reading lately have become stagnant, leaving a ridiculous amount of questions at the end of each book. It's an annoying ploy to keep you buying the next book. There are many things that were resolved enough to be satisfied but still interested in what comes next. I hope we don't have to wait too long for the next one!
I had forgotten that I had this book on pre-order, and so when I got the email that I could download the e-book it was an lovely surprise. I loved the book! I love the character of Dory. Every book in the series so far I have read multiple times. It's one of those series I wish I could forget what happens so I could have the pleasure of reading it again. As authors go I will buy any of Karen Chance's books as soon as it comes out, as her writing is fantastic. Her characters are vivid and often even minor characters provoke interest and are multidimensional. In addition to that, her plots are intriguing, a well rounded, and never formulaic. This book is a plague on my school work! Karen Chance's writing is like eating potato chips...how could I possibly just eat one?....I'm supposed to be reading the Decameron but instead now I have the burning desire to re-read all the books in a Cassie series too.....
When I finished SB, I even felt depressed for a few days...
This fourth book took its sweet time to be released but it definitely did not disappoint!
As action packed and fast paced as usual, I did feel at the beginning few redundant situations or sentences (maybe because I read Fury's Kiss about 20 times while waiting for this book). However the development is just awesome, all my favourite characters being back for an encore and we are learning more about Mircea, about Dory, about Dorina, and I couldn't ask for more! Or perhaps for more of Louis Cesare and Dory, which was definitely the case.
Gosh I felt so emo reading this book and loved every word. If I have to wait as much time for the next book to be released, I am afraid I will just expire... in the meantime I might just re-read it, you know....
